Monthly Muse: October!

OctoberFinal(All images from We Heart It and retailer websites)

Hey friends!

Yes, I do realize that it’s already nearing the end of October therefore this post is extremely late! What this monthly muse board fails to show is October is also midterm season… Sigh. Luckily I made it through my first week of midterms and big assignments being due and I have a week off before returning to yet another week of midterms. But on my week off I think I owe you a monthly muse for the month of October. Instead of inspiring your month, I hope to share with you a few of my favourite things from this month so far!

Most people get super excited about October because of Halloween. I’ll be the first to admit that I’m not crazy about the spooky holiday. First off, I’m not a fan of dressed up people… Secondly I’m not into getting dressed up myself. And when you take away the costumes all that’s left is candy and movies and I don’t need a certain month to grant me permission to buy a box of candy for myself and curl up with a movie ;) But speaking of movies, my favourite Haloween movies are the Disney channel Halloweentown movies! I look forward to October because of them specifically. They may be cheesy but I’m sure you still have a soft spot for them much like I do. You’ll catch me marathoning these movies for the rest of the month!

Another thing I love about October is seeing pumpkin everywhere! Pumpkin pie, pumpkins on doorsteps, pumpkin scented candles, and of course pumpkin spice lattes! Pumpkin spice lattes at Starbucks are one of my seasonal favourites. The tasty drink keeps you cozy on the chilly fall days. I mentioned loving pumpkin pie, but of course that takes a lot of work and as busy students during midterm season, we’re unable to whip up a pumpkin pie. So, my yummy suggestion is Pillsburry “ready-to-bake Pumpkin cookies”! They aren’t pumpkin flavoured but they’re still delicious and they are super easy to bake. Just pop them in the oven, wait a few minutes, and tah-dah!

But speaking of keeping warm in the chilly weather… I was creeping the Urban Outfitters website when I came across a red plaid cardigan; I immediately fell in love. I don’t know what it is that I love so much. I think both plaid and oversized cardigans are essentials for this time of year, but this combines both items into one. It’s an online only item, but I recommend getting a closer look here.

Another fashion item I found this month and really like is two tone skinny jeans from Forever 21. At first I was unsure about this look but it’s something different and the colour change on these jeans is subtle. I can see these jeans being worn in a dark, edgy outfit or as a statement piece in a casual outfit. They’re quite affordable too so be sure to check them out!

Little black booties are very popular right now, but this pair from Topshop are much more fun than what you would typically see. The studs catch your eye but also add a little glam and sass to a casual outfit. I’m in love even though they are quite pricey.. Check them out anyway though! Topshop also has a variety of plain black boots that might interest you if these are too much sparkle for you!

The last thing that has been a favourite of mine this month is the song Riptide by Vance Joy. I have been listening to it online for a few days now, but last night I finally bought it off itunes. After an hour of having it downloaded, I had already listened to it 16 times… I just can’t take it off repeat! Listen here, I hope you love it as much as I do.

My plans for the rest of the month include carving pumpkins, baking some pumpkin flavoured treats, and buying lots of Halloween candy to eat while watching the Halloweentown movies! Let me know what you’ve been up to this month in the comments below.

Hey there!

I hope everyone had a lovely Labour Day weekend! The weather was absolutely beautiful here making it a perfect way to end summer break. The sunshine has put me in a really great mood lately, so I’ve been on a hunt for new, upbeat music to add to my playlists. I want feel good songs that I can sing at the top of my lungs while dancing in the sunshine. I’m always looking for good music, but these are my top picks for this Tuesday!

Monthly Muse: August!

(All images taken from We Heart It and retailer websites)

Hey there!

Again, one more month of summer is gone. It’s hard to believe how fast this summer is going by! Instead of talking about back to school (that topic is impossible to avoid these days) I’m going to talk about how you can enjoy your last month of summer. It’s not school time yet, so lets enjoy what we have left of our summer break. Here is August’s Monthly Muse!

The month of August is usually full of festivals, carnivals, and the hottest summer weather. Some events to look forward to this month in Toronto include the CNE (August 15th-September 1st) and Scotiabank Buskerfest (August 21st-24th). The CNE is a fun time for everyone in the family: there’s shopping, rides, and incredible food. The Scotiabank Buskerfest brings international street performers together into one festival. I’ve never been before but apparently it’s super cool, I definitely hope to check it out this year! There’s also quite a few music festivals going on in the city. I love festivals and highly recommend going somewhere this month. Not only is a fun to go on rides and eat carnival food, there’s usually great music and vendors who are selling unique items. See what’s going on in your town if you can’t make it to Toronto! Make it your goal to explore the town before you’re back to walking the same halls of school everyday.

This dress from Bootlegger ($59.50) is perfect for festivals and day trips. It’s a light weight summer staple that keeps you cool and looking incredibly cute while out and about. Unfortunately you can only buy this dress online, but it can be purchased here. Wear it with this fedora from Forever 21 ($15.80) to protect yourself from the daytime summer sun, and this denim jacket from American Eagle ($54.63) for late summer nights. Denim jackets also get you ready for Fall which is right around the corner.

Maybe you’re like me and also like to spend summer nights in the backyard around a campfire with your family and friends. If you’re looking for something tasty and fruity to drink while socializing, I highly suggest the newest summer edition Palm Bay, the Ocean Peach Pomelo flavour. It’s a fruity vodka spritz that tastes just like juice, it’s my new favourite summer drink. Sip on this while roasting marshmallows and making s’mores and you’ll be in heaven!

I have to admit that even as a country music hater, summertime is all about country music. I know not everyone likes country music, but Drunk On You by Luke Bryan is so great for the summer so I have to suggest it for you to add to your August playlist! Listen to it here. Like I said, country isn’t everyone’s cup of tea so for all of you who refuse to listen to country, I suggest listening to Feels Like Summer by Panama Wedding. This song is a good one for dancing on the lawn with your friends, take a listen here.

It’s sad that summer is coming to an end, but enjoy the last month of it! I’ve been in my hometown for a week now and it’s been nice to do summer things like having campfires and BBQ dinners. When I head back to the city I’m going to be hitting up some of the festivals I mentioned and enjoying life before heading back to school. Let me know in the comments what you’re looking forward to doing through the month of August. Make some memories this month, for summer memories last forever.

Monthly Muse: July!

Hey there! :)

If you’re thinking what I’m thinking, you’re wondering where the month of June went! It’s hard to believe it’s going to be July tomorrow. Two months of my summer break down, two more to go. I’ve crossed off quite a few things from my summer bucketlist so far and hope to continue doing so over the next two months. I’ve put together a little collage to inspire you (and myself) to get out and enjoy the month of July.

(Thanks so much to my lovely sister Alex who came up with the title “Monthly Muse”! Since tomorrow is Canada Day, I’m posting this before the first of the month, bear with me :))

Finally the warm weather is here! As excited as we are to see the sunshine, it’s important to stay hydrated and keep cool. One great way I’ve been managing to do this is through fruit infused water. I Heart Nap Time is a website I found through Pinterest. It has a few drink ideas including a detox water I tried and loved. Check it out here! I highly recommend these tasty and refreshing drinks no matter the activities you do and the adventures you go on this summer.

Not only should you feel good this month, you deserve to look good too. It’s time to show off those arms and legs you’ve been toning up through your summer bod workouts. Step into basically any store and you’ll be able to find a crew neck muscle tank to rock this month! Not only do these tanks have some awesome graphics and prints, they’ll keep you cool in the warm weather. The one I picked out for the inspiration board is from American Eagle ($26.68) and can be found here! I also picked out denim shorts with printed pockets from H&M ($29.95). These shorts can be found here. Lastly, a summer outfit isn’t complete without a pair of sunglasses. I’m a sunglass fanatic, and for me, the bigger the better. The ones in the July Monthly Muse board are from Forever 21 ($6.80), view them online here. Forever 21 is also a great place to buy cute but affordable swimwear and hats. These are summer essentials that usually have a high price tag attached to them, so I suggest Forever 21 if you’re on a budget.

And finally, you need an upbeat and good vibe playlist to listen to while out and about. Right now, I’m in love with Young Volcanoes by Fall Out Boy. This song makes me want to dance and act all wild and free. It’s an essential to your summer playlist, trust me. Check it out here!

So, turn your can’ts into cans and start making some summer plans! Some of my plans for this month include:

  • Hitting up a flea market
  • Beach day!
  • Amusement park (specifically Canada’s Wonderland)
  • Camping (even if it’s just in the backyard)
  • Exploring local trails (I feel like every town and city has some secret trails to hike, look into it!)
  • Shopping at an outdoor mall

Let me know, in the comments below, what you’re looking forward to doing this month!
