Closet Clean Out

Hey friends!

I’ve been getting super bored of my wardrobe lately, which was bound to happen, and is bound to happen again. With the holidays coming up, I’m unwilling to spend much money on myself… I have a lovely family to spoil at Christmas! However come the new year, I hope to do a bit of a wardrobe overhaul. Since I started working at Anthropologie just two months ago, I’ve purchased four tops total between both Anthro and Urban Outfitters. This means at least four old shirts need to go… Preferably more. If you’re in the same position as me and hope to update your closet due to Black Friday shopping, Christmas gifts, or just a new look for the new year, here’s some ideas on what to do with all of the clothes you’re getting rid of.

DONATE THEM

It comes as an obvious option to me, but some people really don’t consider donating their gently used clothing. There’s so many great places you can find in almost any city/town like Goodwill, Value Village, and Salvation Army. If you’re a frequent shopper and are always replacing the items in your closet, consider getting your gently used clothing picked up from your house by organizations such as the Diabetes Society. Someone somewhere will love and benefit from the clothes you no longer want. I’m going to redirect my Toronto friends to a BlogTO post about where else you can donate gently used clothing within the city.

CLOTHING SWAP

My oldest sister is the queen of hitting up clothing swaps. This is a super fun thing to do with your friends and coworkers… And you can get really great things from it for free! If everyone brought 3-5 clothing pieces they no longer wear, you can all exchange these items and end up with something new for yourself. I know a lot of towns also have local Facebook pages where you can post and sell your gently used clothing items with people in your town. Broke college students, this is the option for you since you could possibly make a few bucks in the process! I definitely recommend looking into this.

DIY’S

I’m a DIY lover so there was no doubt I’d be able to find some great uses to repurpose some of your favourite clothing pieces. There are a few shirts I purchased in Europe a few years ago and although I don’t wear these shirts anymore, I really don’t want to give them away. Here’s a few things I suggest doing with those items you have a strong connection to and refuse to give away! Some are a bit of work… but I think we can agree that repurposing your clothes can make adorable and practical crafts while keeping their story alive.
